Is there a time limit to complete a BE at IOE?
Yes. A four-year programme must be completed within eight academic years, and a five-year programme within ten. There is no provision for re-examination after that.
This is the hardest deadline in the whole system and almost nobody is told about it at admission.

- Must be completed within 8 academic years
- A 5-academic-year programme
- Must be completed within 10 academic years
- If you do not finish in that period
- There is no provision to sit the examination again
What that means in practice
You get roughly double the nominal duration to clear everything. That is generous for one or two setbacks and unforgiving beyond it: a student who accumulates backlogs across several years can reach a point where the degree becomes unobtainable rather than merely delayed.
Which is why the back-paper rules matter early
A student who has not appeared in at least one subject of a regular semester examination cannot be admitted to a class above the next one. Backlogs compound into held years, and held years consume the eight.
The degree you receive
Students completing all subjects of an engineering programme are awarded the Bachelor of Engineering. Architecture graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Architecture.
