Can I lose an IOE scholarship once I have it?

Yes. Scholarships are reassessed on each semester’s results, none are given to a student who fails a semester examination, and you cannot hold two at once.

An IOE scholarship is not awarded once for four years. It is reassessed, and it is losable.

The three conditions

  • Awards are made on the results of the immediately preceding semester examination, so the assessment repeats every semester.
  • No scholarship is given to a student who fails the semester examination.
  • A student enjoying one type of scholarship or facility is not given another type, so they do not combine.

First year is decided by your entrance score

Because there is no preceding semester, the entrance examination score is the basis for first year first part. That is another reason the entrance rank is worth more than it appears at admission.

What to ask before you count on one

The percentages are of each programme’s regular student count, so the number of awards depends on cohort size rather than on hitting a fixed mark. Ask your campus how many awards were actually made in your programme last year, and what the cut-off result was. A percentage of an unknown denominator is not a plan.
