Three tools that should not be mixed together
Type Nepali is phonetic transliteration. It interprets a Roman phrase such asmero desh and returns readable Unicode such as मेरो देश. Common spellings are handled directly; use the phonetic vowel forms when a word is ambiguous.
Preeti to Unicode decodes text copied from a document that uses the old Preeti keyboard mapping. Unicode to Preeti does the reverse for a legacy Word or publishing template. Neither conversion is a translation.
Why Preeti can look like English symbols
Preeti stores ordinary character codes and changes how those codes are drawn. For example,g]kfn is the stored value for नेपाल. If a device does not have a compatible Preeti font, it can only show the stored codes. This page uses a locally installed Preeti font when available and always keeps a Unicode preview visible, so the readable result never depends on that font.

Data and privacy
Preeti conversion uses tables included in the page and makes no network request. Romanized typing uses local phonetic rules and common-word overrides, so it also makes no network request.
The Preeti character tables are derived from the MIT-licensed diwaskunwar converter and globalpolicy converter. Romanized rules are adapted from the MIT-licensed nepali_unicoder project.
