What a trade really costs after the broker commission, the SEBON fee, the DP charge and capital gains tax — and the price the share has to reach before you have made anything. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

An estimate, not a contract note. SEBON sets the commission slabs as ceilings, so your broker may charge less, and the DP charge is levied by your depository participant rather than by NEPSE. Bonus shares, right shares, promoter shares, IPO allotments and non-resident accounts are all treated differently from an ordinary market trade and are not modelled here.
Rates checked on 2026-08-19, against licensed broker rate cards published under the SEBON schedule of Jestha 2081.
Four charges, and only one of them is on the contract note you look at
The broker commission is the number everyone knows. It is the largest of the four, but it is not the whole cost, and the other three are what turn an apparently profitable trade into a small loss.
The SEBON regulatory fee is 0.015% of the transaction, charged on the buy and again on the sell. The DP charge is a flat Rs 25 per scrip per transfer day, collected by your depository participant — it does not scale with the size of the trade, which makes it brutal on small ones. And capital gains tax is withheld by the broker at the point of sale, so the money never reaches your account for you to notice it leaving.
The commission slab is not a band
Income tax charges each band only on the slice of income inside it. The broker commission does not work that way. The whole transaction is charged at the single rate its total falls into, so a Rs 50,000 trade pays 0.36% on all of it and a Rs 50,001 trade pays 0.33% on all of it — and therefore costs slightly less in commission despite being larger.
Below Rs 2,500 the percentage is replaced by a flat Rs 10. On a very small trade the flat fee and the DP charge together can be several percent of the money involved, which is the real reason a Rs 2,000 trade is rarely worth making.
Your cost is not the price you paid
The number that matters when you sell is not what you bid, it is what the holding cost you including the charges on the buy. That is the WACC figure your broker's app shows, and it is what capital gains tax is computed against.
The average cost mode above works this out across several buys. It deliberately shows the plain average beside it, because the gap between the two is the reason a holding that looks break-even on paper is not.
Break-even is above the price you bought at
For a round trip to return exactly what you put in, the sell price has to cover the buy charges, the sell charges and the tax on whatever gain the sale shows. The break-even figure above solves for that price directly rather than guessing at it — including the fact that the sell-side commission itself scales with the sell price.
Holding for one more day can change the tax
An individual pays 7.5% on a holding of 365 days or fewer and 5% beyond that. The boundary is counted in days from the settlement of the buy, and exactly 365 days is still the higher rate. On a large gain that single day is worth real money, which is why the days held is an input here rather than a checkbox.
Working out a date in the Nepali calendar?
Holding periods on a Nepali contract note are dated in Bikram Sambat. The date converter will give you the exact number of days between two BS dates, and the salary tax calculator covers the other half of a Nepali tax year.
Common questions
- Is this NEPSE share calculator page free to use?
- Yes. Every Kaamko tool is free, with no sign-up, no account and no usage limit. They are published by Imperial College of Engineering, a Tribhuvan University-affiliated engineering college in Tathali, Bhaktapur, and are not funded by advertising.
- Does what I type get sent anywhere?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser: the calculation happens on your own device, nothing you type is uploaded, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
- Where do the figures come from?
- Each tool names its source on the page, along with the date that source was read. Where a rate or a slab is provisional — announced in a budget speech but not yet gazetted, for instance — the page says so rather than presenting it as settled.
- Who maintains these tools?
- Imperial College of Engineering, formerly Janakpur Engineering College, in Tathali, Bhaktapur, Nepal. Corrections are welcome by phone on 01-5091616 or through the contact page, and a figure reported as wrong is checked against its published source rather than adjusted on request.
