Vehicle tax and bluebook renewal
A renewal is three charges, not one: the provincial vehicle tax, the transport office's renewal fee, and compulsory third-party insurance. A fourth appears the moment the fiscal year turns — the fine goes from 20% to 32% a year.

This province's rates are not carried here.Vehicle tax is provincial: each of the seven provinces passes its own Economic Act with its own schedule, revised every year. Only Bagmati has been sourced for this page. Borrowing Bagmati's rates — the highest in the country — would give you a number that looks official and is wrong, so the page declines instead. Your provincial transport office or its website carries the current schedule.
Earlier years are an estimate, in the safe direction. Each unpaid year is charged here at this year's tax plus 32%. Rates in earlier years were often lower, so a long-overdue vehicle will be quoted slightly high rather than slightly low. The office's figure is the one that counts.
The amnesty has closed. Three-year amnesty on pre-2080/81 arrears, under Bagmati Province budget FY 2082/83, provision 214, ended End of Jestha 2083 (about 15 June 2026). It is named here because it is still being repeated online as though it were open.
The fine stops counting days and starts counting years
Inside the fiscal year the penalty is mild and graded:5% in the first month, 10% to about ten weeks, 20% after that. Then the year turns, and each missed fiscal year carries 32% — on top of that year's tax, which is also still owed.
That is the cliff. A 150cc bike left one year is Rs 6,600 worse off than one renewed on time; left three years it is Rs 19,800. The fines cap at 5 years, which is the only mercy in the schedule.
Electric vehicles are taxed on the motor, and taxed far less
A petrol car in the smallest band pays Rs 22,000 a year. An electric car up to 49 kW pays Rs 10,000. The gap is deliberate policy and it is large enough to matter in a total cost comparison over any holding period.
Note the unit changes with the vehicle: cubic centimetres for internal combustion, watts for an electric two-wheeler and kilowatts for an electric four-wheeler. The form switches with your choice.
Insurance is a premium, not a tax
Third-party motor insurance is compulsory and it is priced by the insurer within the Nepal Insurance Authority's tariff. It is not set by the province, it is not the same for two vehicles of the same size, and it changes when the tariff is revised. That is why this page asks you for it instead of publishing a table that would be quietly stale within a year.
Only Bagmati, and that is a deliberate limit
Seven provinces, seven Economic Acts, seven schedules, all revised annually. Publishing one province's numbers under a national heading is how a visitor from Gandaki budgets from a Bagmati rate and finds the counter disagrees. The other six are listed in the dropdown so the absence is visible, and they will be added as each Act is sourced properly.

Common questions
- Is this Nepal vehicle tax and bluebook renewal page free to use?
- Yes. Every Kaamko tool is free, with no sign-up, no account and no usage limit. They are published by Imperial College of Engineering, a Tribhuvan University-affiliated engineering college in Tathali, Bhaktapur, and are not funded by advertising.
- Does what I type get sent anywhere?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser: the calculation happens on your own device, nothing you type is uploaded, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
- Where do the figures come from?
- Each tool names its source on the page, along with the date that source was read. Where a rate or a slab is provisional — announced in a budget speech but not yet gazetted, for instance — the page says so rather than presenting it as settled.
- Who maintains these tools?
- Imperial College of Engineering, formerly Janakpur Engineering College, in Tathali, Bhaktapur, Nepal. Corrections are welcome by phone on 01-5091616 or through the contact page, and a figure reported as wrong is checked against its published source rather than adjusted on request.
