These are wholesale rates, not shop prices. They are what lots changed hands for at Kalimati between traders. A retailer adds transport, wastage, handling and a margin, so a neighbourhood shop charging noticeably more than the maximum here is normal rather than dishonest.

Every other page says "today". This one checks
The Kalimati board does not publish every day. It closes for public holidays, and the day's figures only appear once the morning's trading has been recorded. Ask its site for prices without naming a date and it answers with the most recent day it has — which on a holiday is not today.
So this page asks for a specific day. If the board has nothing for it, the page steps back a day and asks again, and then tells you which day it ended up with and how old that is. Every other Nepali site republishing this feed prints "today's price" over whatever it got.
Minimum, maximum and average are three different questions
The board records the cheapest lot, the dearest lot and the average across the day for each commodity. The gap between the first two is not noise — it is quality, origin and the hour of the morning. A tomato from a tunnel farm and a tomato off a truck from India are both "tomato" in this table.
The basket therefore totals three ways at once: at the rate you chose, and at the extremes. The spread between them is roughly the room a careful buyer has.
Wholesale is not retail, and the difference is not a scandal
A rate here is for a lot, at the market, at dawn. By the time it reaches a shop it has been transported, broken into kilos, kept for a day or two with some of it spoiling, and sold by someone who needs to live on the difference. Comparing the two directly and concluding you are being cheated is the commonest misreading of this data.
Where it is genuinely useful is direction and magnitude: whether onions have doubled this month, whether the cauliflower glut has started, and what a sack should cost if you are buying one.
Buying in bulk?
If you are pricing a canteen or a hostel kitchen, total the basket at the maximum rather than the average — a large order rarely gets the cheapest lot of everything. The unit converter handles the dharni-and-pathi arithmetic that older suppliers still quote in.
