Shared subjects
What BCT shares with the other programmes
With BCE: 4 courses under the same code
Engineering Mathematics I (ENSH 101), Computer Programming (ENCT 101), Engineering Mathematics II (ENSH 151) and Engineering Mathematics III (ENSH 201).
With BEI: 21 courses under the same code
Engineering Mathematics I (ENSH 101), Computer Programming (ENCT 101), Engineering Drawing (ENME 101), Fundamental of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ENEX 101), Engineering Physics (ENSH 102), Engineering Workshop (ENME 106), Engineering Mathematics II (ENSH 151), Object Oriented Programming (ENCT 151), Digital Logic (ENEX 152), Electronic Device and Circuits (ENEX 151), Engineering Chemistry (ENSH 153), Electrical Circuits and Machines (ENEE 154), Engineering Mathematics III (ENSH 201), Communication English (ENSH 204), Computer Graphics and Visualization (ENCT 201), Microprocessors (ENEX 201), Numerical Methods (ENSH 252), Instrumentation (ENEX 252), Electromagnetics (ENEX 254), Probability and Statistics (ENSH 304) and Engineering Economics (ENCE 356).
Civil also teaches Physics, Engineering Drawing, Numerical Methods, Communication English, Probability and Statistics and Engineering Economics with the same outline under its own course codes, so a student who changes programme keeps more common ground than the codes suggest.
Quick answers
BCT syllabus questions
How many credits is the IOE BCT degree?
The IOE BCT curriculum carries 138 credits over eight semesters, between 14 and 19 credits a semester. Years I to III account for 106 of them.
How many subjects are in the BCT syllabus?
IOE lists 46 courses across the eight semesters. The syllabus for 36 of them, Semesters 1 to 6, is published, and the elective slots in Year III offer 8 options. The 10 Year IV courses are listed with credits and marks but without a syllabus so far.
How are BCT subjects marked?
All 41 theory subjects are marked 40 internal and 60 in the IOE final examination, which lasts 3 hours for most papers. Practical work is assessed internally, and 2 courses have a separate practical final. The full split for every subject is in the semester tables on this page.
Is the Year IV BCT syllabus published?
Not as of 30 September 2026. IOE lists the 10 Year IV courses, among them Digital Signal Analysis and Processing and Distributed and Cloud Computing, with their credits and marks, but has not released their syllabi. ICE will add them to this page and to the handbook when IOE publishes them.
Where can I download the BCT syllabus PDF?
On this page. The ICE handbook puts every published BCT syllabus, Semesters 1 to 6, in one 160-page PDF with a contents page, and the syllabus pages inside it are IOE's own, unchanged. IOE's curriculum page links each course's syllabus separately.
Which BCT subjects are shared with other programmes?
4 subjects carry the same course code in BCE, and 21 subjects carry the same course code in BEI. 4 are common to all three ICE programmes: Engineering Mathematics I, Computer Programming, Engineering Mathematics II and Engineering Mathematics III.

IOE's syllabus is the authority
Credits, hours and marks on this page are taken from IOE's curriculum structure for BCT, and the chapters from IOE's own syllabus PDFs, checked on 30 September 2026. Where the two disagree, as in a few chapter hours, this page shows the syllabus outline. If IOE revises a course, its page is what counts. Open IOE's BCT curriculum page.
