Prithvi Highway
Blocked by landslides since 26 September, no reopening time given
Four days of rain from 24 September brought landslides down at Krishnabhir, Chaukibhir, Jawang Khola and Fisling, and the Dhading administration stopped all traffic between Parewabhir, Kamerobhir and Chalise until the rain stops and the road is cleared. On the Chitwan side, landslides at Dharapani and Simaldhara in Ichchhakamana blocked the Narayanghat to Muglin road both ways on the morning of 27 September. This is the Kathmandu to Muglin to Narayangadh road that anyone coming from Pokhara, Chitwan or Butwal travels on. Please do not set out on it until Traffic Police on 103 say it is open.
Pasang Lhamu Highway (Galchhi–Syaphrubesi)
Gone, not merely closed
The Rasuwa road, through the reach the flood destroyed. The Friendship Bridge at Rasuwagadhi, the main crossing into China, went with it. This was the all-weather route to Kerung and it no longer exists as a road.
Araniko Highway and the Tatopani crossing
Tatopani border point closed by China on 31 August
Closed on landslide risk, which removes the obvious alternative to Rasuwagadhi for anything crossing the northern border.
Bidur–Betrawati section
9.5 of 10 kilometres restored, 0.5 km washed away
The last 0.5 km was washed away completely and a new road is being cut through hard rock with the Nepali Army. Foundation excavation has begun for the Betrawati bridge.
BP Highway (Kavrepalanchok)
Traffic stopped since 26 September
The flooded Roshi washed away temporary diversions at Mamti, Piple, Daunne-Kalopul, Charsayabesi, Katunje and Chaukidanda. The Department of Roads said repairs would take at least two days. This is the road into the Valley from the east and from Sindhuli.
Kathmandu to Hetauda (Kanti Lokpath, Bhimphedi road, Mahendra Highway)
Restricted after landslides on 26 September
The Lalitpur administration stopped traffic on the Kanti Lokpath after landslides at Chapali and Takurche, and the Hetauda to Bhimphedi road was reported blocked. The Chitwan administration stopped travel on the Mahendra Highway.
Tribhuvan Highway (Nagdhunga and Pataleban)
One-way traffic after landslides
Landslides near Nagdhunga and Pataleban have cut this road to one-way traffic. The Nagdhunga Tunnel is open throughout. This is the western entry into the Kathmandu Valley, so allow extra time if you are coming in from Naubise or the Prithvi Highway.
