Which colleges run Purbanchal University engineering degrees?

The Nepal Engineering Council registers twenty: the university's own School of Engineering at Biratnagar and nineteen affiliated colleges, across seven districts. It is the largest engineering register of any university in Nepal after Tribhuvan, and also the most Kathmandu-centred, with twelve of the twenty in the Valley. The faculty's own list stops at eighteen, and the gap is a college it was examining candidates for.

Purbanchal University has more engineering colleges on the regulator's register than any university in Nepal except Tribhuvan. The Nepal Engineering Council lists twenty under it: the constituent School of Engineering at Biratnagar and nineteen affiliated colleges. The university's own Faculty of Engineering publishes eighteen affiliated colleges on its website and its constituent college on a separate page, which makes nineteen. The one it leaves out is Mansarowar Institute of Science and Technology at Damak, approved by the regulator in Falgun 2082, and the faculty's own 2083 entrance notice calls Mansarowar's BE Civil applicants to a named examination centre. So the university was admitting to a college its own college list does not carry.

The twenty on the regulator's register

The "first approved date" is the regulator's record of when it first recognised the college, not the year the institution was founded. The programme count is a count and the register does not name the programmes; for eighteen of these twenty the faculty's own documents do, and that list is on the seats page linked below.

Seven districts, and twelve colleges in the Valley

The twenty sit in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Morang, Dhanusa, Chitwan and Jhapa. Seven of the twenty are in Kathmandu district, four in Lalitpur and one in Bhaktapur, so twelve of twenty are inside the Kathmandu Valley. Outside it there are two in Morang around Biratnagar, three in Jhapa, one in Chitwan and one in Dhanusa. This matters because the university's name and its campus both point east: it is headquartered at Gothgaun in Morang, and it teaches most of its engineering in Kathmandu.

Four traps in the official lists

Two different colleges are called Khwopa

Khwopa ENGINEERING College at Libali, Bhaktapur is the Purbanchal one, with five registered programmes. Khwopa COLLEGE of Engineering is a Tribhuvan University community college, and it is the one UGC accredited on 22 April 2026. They are different institutions in the same town under different universities, and any list that merges them is wrong about both.

One college has two names on two official lists

The regulator registers "National Institute of Engineering and Technology" at Kupondole and does not carry the biomedical name. The faculty's own seat list carries "College of Biomedical Engineering and Applied Science" and does not carry this one. They are the same college. UGC's accreditation register lists the biomedical name under Purbanchal with the website biomedical.edu.np, and that domain serves a site titled NIET. Its UGC accreditation expired on 4 October 2021.

There are two Balkumaris

One by Koteshwor in Kathmandu and one in Lalitpur. The regulator places Hillside College of Engineering in the Kathmandu one. Treating the name as a single place merges colleges across two districts.

The university prints a wrong website in its own PDF

Its seat list gives the same domain, eascoll.edu.np, for two different colleges in two different districts. The domain belongs to Eastern College of Engineering in Biratnagar, so the row that is wrong is the biomedical college's. The domain it prints for Aryan School of Engineering returned 404 when it was checked on 2 September 2026.

  Both. Two different universities abbreviate themselves PU in their own official documents, both award BE degrees, and they have no college in common. Purbanchal is headquartered at Gothgaun in Morang and runs one central entrance for its whole engineering faculty. Pokhara is headquartered in Kaski and runs no university-wide BE entrance at all, leaving it to each college.
