Which colleges run Pokhara University engineering degrees?

The Nepal Engineering Council registers sixteen: the university’s own School of Engineering at Pokhara and fifteen private colleges, across eleven districts from Dhangadhi to Urlabari. Pokhara University’s own Faculty of Science and Technology publishes seventeen, and the two lists do not agree with each other on three separate points.

Two official lists of Pokhara University’s engineering colleges exist, and they disagree. The Nepal Engineering Council, the regulator, registers sixteen: the university’s own School of Engineering at Pokhara in Kaski, and fifteen private colleges. Pokhara University’s own Faculty of Science and Technology publishes seventeen schools and colleges, with addresses, e-mail and telephone. The differences are not clerical. Ritz College of Engineering and Management is on the regulator’s register and missing from the university’s own faculty page, while appearing in that same university’s 2083 scholarship awarded lists as a college students chose. SchEMS and Crimson College of Technology are on the faculty page and are not on the regulator’s engineering register. And Cosmos College of Management and Technology has one address on each list, in two different districts. Where they conflict, this page carries the regulator’s value and states the university’s.

The “first approved date” is the regulator’s record of when it first recognised the college, not the year the institution was founded. The register gives a programme count and does not name the programmes for any private college, so a per-college list of which BE degrees each one actually runs is not published by either the regulator or the university.

Eleven districts, and why that matters

This is the most geographically spread engineering system in Nepal. The sixteen sit in Kaski, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Rupandehi, Morang, Dang, Chitwan, Banke, Nawalparasi and Kailali — eleven of the country’s seventy-seven districts. Four are in Lalitpur and three in Kaski, so the Valley is still over-represented, but Pokhara reaches Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Ghorahi, Bharatpur and Urlabari in a way the Tribhuvan and Kathmandu University systems do not. For a student in the far west or the eastern Tarai, this is often the nearest engineering degree.

Three specific traps

Nepal Engineering College is not a Tribhuvan college: It is registered under Pokhara University with seven programmes, the largest count of any private engineering college in the country. The largest directory site in Nepal heads its profile “Affiliated with Tribhuvan University” directly above a programme block headed “Pokhara University”. The regulator and the college itself both say Pokhara.
Two names for Urlabari: The regulator registers “Madan Bhandari College of Engineering”; the university’s faculty page and its own scholarship awarded lists both call the same institution at the same address “Madan Bhandari Memorial Academy Nepal”.
Cosmos has two addresses: The register places it at Sitapaila in Kathmandu; the university’s faculty page places it at Tutepani, near Satdobato, in Lalitpur. Those are different districts, and no published document reconciles them.

One more number is worth keeping apart from these. Pokhara University states on its own site that it has given affiliation to 58 colleges to date and describes 5 constituent colleges and 3 joint constituent colleges. That figure covers every discipline the university teaches, not engineering. The sixteen above are the engineering subset, and the two numbers answer different questions.
