How does the Purbanchal University BE entrance exam work?

One examination, run centrally by the Faculty of Engineering, decides admission to every one of its constituent and affiliated engineering colleges. You apply online at entrance.puexam.edu.np, choosing the college and programme you want as you apply, and the faculty tells you which centre to sit at. In the 2083 cycle the paper ran on Saturday 15 August 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at six centres.

Purbanchal University runs one BE entrance examination for its whole Faculty of Engineering, and that single fact separates it from the other private-college system most applicants compare it with. Its own Unified Procedure 2082 states it plainly: the Faculty of Engineering conducts both the entrance examination and the scholarship entrance examination centrally, while every other faculty of the university runs only the scholarship examination that way. So one form, one fee, one paper and one date cover the university's School of Engineering at Biratnagar and all nineteen affiliated colleges. You name the college and the programme you want when you apply, and your choice decides which centre you sit at rather than which paper you take.

The two application deadlines overlap with the exam-centre notice because the centres were published on 6 August, three days before the normal deadline closed. The application notice itself said the exam date and centres would be announced later, so an applicant in June had no way to plan around a date.

Payment is made online through the portal as part of the form. Two conditions in the notice cost people their application rather than their money. Your school, campus or college has to verify your uploaded documents online within the time the faculty sets, so submitting on the last evening leaves someone else with work to do before the window shuts. And the photograph specification is unusually specific: a recent 51mm by 51mm passport-size colour photograph on a plain background showing the full face, in JPEG, JPG or PNG. The notice says photographs and documents in any other size or format are not accepted.

Which centre you sit at

The centre follows the college you applied to, not where you live. The faculty published six for the 2083 cycle.

One consequence of that mapping is worth reading twice if you live in the Valley. Every applicant to every Kathmandu and Lalitpur college sat at a single centre in Bhaktapur, and Khwopa's own applicants sat at a second Bhaktapur venue rather than at their college. Twelve of this university's twenty engineering colleges are in the Valley, so that one row covers most of the candidates.

What you carry into the hall

Both the entrance notice and the university's own procedure set the same rule, and the procedure adds that a candidate without it is not allowed to sit. You need a colour print of the admit card downloaded from the portal, and one original photo identity document issued by the Government of Nepal: national identity card, citizenship certificate, driving licence or voter identity card. The final semester or annual examination admit card for class 12 or a diploma is accepted in place of those. A foreign national brings a passport or another original identity document.

  Both. Two different universities abbreviate themselves PU in their own official documents, both award BE degrees, and they have no college in common. Purbanchal is headquartered at Gothgaun in Morang and runs one central entrance for its whole engineering faculty. Pokhara is headquartered in Kaski and runs no university-wide BE entrance at all, leaving it to each college.
