Who is eligible for Kathmandu University’s engineering programmes, and which test group do you sit?

A +2 or equivalent with GPA 2.0 or 50% aggregate, and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in both class 11 and 12 for the PCM group. Computer, Geomatics, Architecture and AI also accept Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. Biology-stream students need Additional Mathematics.

To apply for any engineering programme at Kathmandu University you need a completed 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or 50% aggregate marks, and you must sit the KUCAT-CBT in the PCM group: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The subject rule then splits by programme. For Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Mining and Environmental Engineering you must have passed Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in both class 11 and class 12. For Computer Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Architecture, Information Technology and the BTech in Artificial Intelligence, the PMCs combination of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science is accepted as well as PCM. A student from the Biology stream can sit the PCM test only after taking and passing Additional Mathematics. Candidates still waiting for their Grade 12 result may apply provisionally. The only School of Engineering programme with no test at all is the Bachelor in Health Informatics, which admits through its own department.

The PCB group exists for the School of Science’s biology-side programmes and for Agriculture. No engineering programme admits on PCB, which is why a Biology-stream student has to add Mathematics before applying.

If your qualification is not the Nepali +2

GCSE A Level

At least three A-level subjects and one AS level, in a PCB, PCM or PMCs combination. Where a percentage uniform mark is given, 50% aggregate applies; where it is not, a grade D in each of the three subjects does.

IB Diploma

At least six subjects in a PCB, PCM or PMCs combination, with a final grade of 3 in each course separately.

CTEVT diploma

Eligible for the related discipline, subject to the equivalent percentage criteria.

Foreign boards

You must present an equivalence from Kathmandu University’s own authority at the time of admission, converting your grades to marks.

Foreign nationals

Eligible if they meet every minimum requirement; the procedure document directs them to the school administration for the rest.

What the first admission notice added

The School of Engineering’s admission notice of 4 August 2026 restates the eligibility in two boxes, one for the PCM-only programmes and one for the PCM-or-PMCs programmes, and repeats the Biology-stream rule in both. It also names a programme the call page does not: "BE Civil Engineering with specialization in Hydropower", in the PCM-only box. Whether that is a separate intake or a track inside Civil is not stated in either document.

Eligibility is from the "Eligibility Criteria and CBT Test Group" and "Programs / Who can Apply" sections of the 2026 call page, cross-read against pages 1 and 2 of the 4 August 2026 admission notice and section 7 of the procedure document. The GPA is stated as 2.0 in both the call and the notice; the test document says the same as "aggregate 50% in percentage scale".
